I Saw Jesus

In 1978, I was sitting in a little church in Gulfport, Mississippi having just had communion. Clay McClean was playing piano and singing the hymn “Fairest Lord Jesus”.

The song faded into the background and suddenly I was IN a vision. At the time, I didn’t know there was such a thing as a vision. I was just sitting there listening to the song, when suddenly I was IN a vision. I wasn’t looking at something, like watching a movie. I was in a different place.

I saw Jesus!

There he was, standing right in front of me. I couldn’t see His facial features because shining out from Him were bright rays of light that I recognized as LOVE. He communicated with me from His heart to mine and assured me of His great love for me without speaking.

Then, He spoke and said, “They, (meaning His people) don’t know how much I love them and I’ve done all that I can do to show them. Greater love hath no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

This Jesus that I was looking at and who was speaking to me of His love for me and for His people and the world, is Lord of all the earth and Creator of all!  “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” Col 1:15,16

I saw Him as the Majestic King of Glory, Ruler of all, Son of God and Son of Man!

At the very same time, and equal to His majesty, power and authority, was the greatness of His humility! It goes beyond description. I know that it sounds strange to talk about His humility in this way, but it was so beautiful that I have to tell about it when I tell of this vision.

It was not just that He is humble, but that He is humility itself. The word is full of Scripture that refer to Him humbling Himself. “He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Phil 2:8

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Phil 2:9-11

This humility is the secret to being great in the Kingdom of God. “Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Mt 8:4

Listen to Andrew Murray as he instructs us…

“Just as water ever seeks and fills the lowest place, so the moment God finds the creature abased and empty, His glory and power flow in to exalt and to bless. He that humbleth himself—that must be our one care—shall be exalted; that is God’s care; by His mighty power and in His great love He will do it.

Men sometimes speak as if humility and meekness would rob us of what is noble and bold and manlike. Oh, that all would believe that this is the nobility of the kingdom of heaven, that this is the royal spirit that the King of heaven displayed, that this is Godlike, to humble oneself, to become the servant of all! This is the path to the gladness and the glory of Christ’s presence ever in us, His power ever resting on us.

Jesus, the meek and lowly One, calls us to learn of Him the path to God. Let us study the words we have been reading, until our heart is filled with the thought: My one need is humility. And let us believe that what He shows, He gives, what He is, He imparts. As the meek and lowly One, He will come in and dwell in the longing heart.”

This experience, very early in my Christian life, is still fresh to me. I am forever grateful to Jesus, the One who sought me out and showed me the greatest love of all.

If you don’t know this Jesus, the One who gave His life for you, all that is needed, is that you humble yourself, pray, and give Him your heart and life. He is real. He will come to you in unexpected ways, maybe in a vision, maybe not. But, when you are born of the Spirit, there will be no doubt that a change has come.

Let me know if I can help you or pray for you.
